Viagra list price

On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis. When marketed asCialis Together(tadalafil 10mg), it will be a ‘P’ (pharmacy) medication, and so available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies – see. This follows the 2018, ‘P’ classification of (sildenafil 50mg) which has been available OTC, without a prescription, since then.

This decision is good news for men’s health …. Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care

Dr Laura Squire, MHRA’s Chief Officer for Healthcare, Quality and Access

Unfortunately, there is a strong black market in the UK for ED medicines, which are often unlicensed or counterfeit. UK Border Force and the MHRA seize millions of pounds of these fake products from criminals annually. This new classification of tadalafil 10mg will enable men who suffer from ED to obtain it safely from a local pharmacy.

Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, is expected to launch Cialis Together later in 2023. Cialis Together will be available to purchase in pharmacies without a prescription by men over 18 with erectile dysfunction. Cialis Together tablets will contain 10mg tadalafil and the maximum pack size will be 8 tablets. Other doses and pack sizes of Cialis and tadalafil will still be available on prescription through doctors and specially trained pharmacists. Before purchase in a pharmacy there must be an assessment with a pharmacist, who will check that Cialis Together is appropriate and safe, or whether consultation with a GP is necessary.

What does this mean for patients?

Men suffering with ED will have another treatment option with the convenience of purchasing it in their local pharmacy, including pharmacies found inside supermarkets (eg. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s). The pharmacist will ask some health questions, may check blood pressure, and will advise on treatment with Cialis Together or Viagra Connect, or the need to consult a GP. Pharmacies usually have a private room for such discussions.

Cialis Together is a 10mg tadalafil product for use at least 30 minutes prior to anticipated sexual activity. Its effects can last. It is not recommended for daily use. The maximum recommended dose of Cialis Together will be one tablet in 24 hours. Prescription Cialis and tadalafil will still be available at different doses.

Dr Fox welcomes the wider access to ED medication for men that Cialis Together classified as a ‘P’ OTC medication will provide. We at Dr Fox are aware of the difficulties men have in discussing ED with their GPs and in accessing ED medication. We know that Cialis is effective and safe for most men and this change provides another option for obtaining ED treatment. Pharmacists are health professionals who are able to give ED advice but they will also know when to refer men who would benefit from a doctor’s assessment. ‘P’ medicines can also be supplied on prescription, and we will offer Cialis Together, when available, alongside our other competitively priced ED products.

How to take tablets

Swallow tablets whole with a drink of water or juice (but not grapefruit juice).

For erectile dysfunction, it's best to take sildenafil on an empty stomach. It may take longer to work if you take it with food.

How to take liquid

If you or your child are taking sildenafil as a liquid, 1ml is usually the same as taking a 10mg tablet, but it's important to always check the medicine label.

Liquid sildenafil will usually be made up for you by your pharmacist.

The medicine will come with a plastic syringe or spoon to help you take the right amount. If you do not have a plastic syringe or spoon, ask your pharmacist for one. Do not use a kitchen teaspoon as it will not measure the right amount.

If you take too much

Taking too much sildenafil can cause unpleasant side effects.

Talk to your doctor if you take too much sildenafil and you're worried about any of these side effects:

  • headaches
  • dizziness
  • indigestion
  • blocked nose
  • changes to your vision
You should not take more than one tablet per day.

Taking too much sildenafil can cause side effects, including:

  • upset stomach
  • back pain
  • feeling sick
  • difficulty swallowing
  • difficulty breathing
  • jaundice

Jaundice is a rare side effect of sildenafil. These are very contagious and should not be used by people who already have jaundice problems.

If you're taking sildenafil to treat erectile dysfunction, you may take it again after a few weeks of taking it. You should talk to your doctor if you're still taking it after a month or longer.

Taking other medicines

Use the below tools to monitor your symptoms:

  • stop drug suddenly
  • tell a friend or colleague if you take sildenafil before you go to sleep
  • stop taking sildenafil after a few weeks of taking it
  • tell your doctor if you take sildenafil more than once a day
  • stop taking sildenafil if you feel nauseous, vomiting blood, or a rash gets worse
  • stop taking sildenafil after a few days of taking it
These are important information to keep an eye on while you're taking sildenafil:
  • if you're getting an erection while taking sildenafil, you should take it only when you feel an erection going strong.
  • if you're getting an erection for a sexual activity, you should take sildenafil only when you feel sexual stimulation.
  • if you're getting an erection when you stop taking sildenafil, you should take it only when you feel an erection going strong.
  • if you're not getting an erection after a few weeks of taking sildenafil, you should take it only when you feel sexual stimulation.

You should talk to your doctor about the possible harmful effects of taking other medicines that you are taking.

Men in the UK will soon be able to buy Viagra over the counter for the first time after the erectile dysfunction drug was reclassified.

Those aged 18 and over will no longer need to see a GP for a prescription after the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced that it is changing the status of Viagra Connect tablets so they can be sold in pharmacies following a conversation with a pharmacist.

US pharmaceutical company Pfizer said it is working on plans to launch the non-prescription version of the medicine in the UK in the spring of 2018. A four-pack of the sildenafil tablets will cost around £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99. Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day. Sildenafil is already available on NHS prescription free of charge.

The decision to reclassify the drug follows a public consultation, the MHRA said. Pharmacists will be able to determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and can give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine, potential side effects and assess if further consultation with a general practitioner is required.

“The move to make Viagra Connect more widely accessible will encourage men to seek help within the healthcare system and increase awareness of erectile dysfunction.”

Mick Foy, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency

But some men, including those with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure or those taking certain “interacting medicines”, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.

It is hoped that making the drug more widely available will mean than men who may have not previously sought help will be more likely to do so. Health officials also hope the move will also help steer people away from buying drugs websites operating illegally.

‘Popular target’

The MHRA said that erectile dysfunction medicines are a “popular target” for criminals selling unlicensed and counterfeit medicines, over the past five years the Agency has seized more than £50m of unlicensed and counterfeit erectile dysfunction medicines.

“This decision is good news for men’s health,” said Mick Foy, MHRA’s group manager in vigilance and risk management of medicines. “The move to make Viagra Connect more widely accessible will encourage men to seek help within the healthcare system and increase awareness of erectile dysfunction.

“Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care, and do not feel they need to turn to counterfeit online supplies which could have potentially serious side effects.”

Dr Berkeley Phillips, UK medical director at Pfizer, said: “The availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies from next year will offer men who are eligible for the product a new and convenient way to access sildenafil, a commonly prescribed treatment for erectile dysfunction.

“We understand some men may avoid seeking support and treatment for this condition, so we believe giving them the option to talk to a pharmacist and buy Viagra Connect could be a real step forward in encouraging more men into the healthcare system.

“As erectile dysfunction may be a sign of an underlying condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease, there could also be a wider benefit to public health in the long term. We hope that this forthcoming new opportunity to purchase a genuine treatment via pharmacy will also reduce the likelihood of men turning to potentially ineffective and dangerous counterfeits from illicit sources.”

How would you connect with the Viagra Connect team?

The MHRA has said that it believes an active prescription must be taken from a registered doctor through to be able to be able to give you the product.

Medication can be bought by a pharmacist in physical stores, but the pharmacy will will need to follow a simple health condition and drug treatment order rules.

Men who have a medical condition that affects how well you think you know someone, including heartbeat problems and heart problems, can help identify those who are health-related. They can help to develop a health and medical history database to help identify other people and natural triggers for health problems.

Men who suffer from some mental health conditions, such as diabetes and anxiety, can also get prescriptions from the pharmacy.

The Canadian Drug Prices Review Board (CDRB) is working with Health Canada and Health Canada to update our drug prices in order to help lower drug prices in Canada. We will continue to update our drug prices for prescription drugs and medical devices for all drugs that can be purchased from Canada’s pharmacies.

Drug prices are for a prescription drug and may vary based on:

  • the drug’s brand name
  • whether it has been approved or not
  • the dosage
  • the dosage strength (for example, 50 mg, 100 mg, or 200 mg)
  • the manufacturer’s name
  • the quantity of the drug, and
  • whether it has been manufactured by a Canadian manufacturer

We are committed to making health care more affordable. However, the Canadian Government does not yet have a drug manufacturer or distributor list.
